objectives

After the training program, the participants will be able to:
 
-    Explain the concept of coaching and mentoring, the general processes
      for each of these and why they are important in today’s workplace.

-    Identify personal strengths they need to have in order to be effective
      as a coach and mentor.

-    Have a process for effective goal setting and expectation management,
      and to monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of the coaching
      and mentoring process.

-    Identify the suitable coaching style as well as learning style for
      the staff they are going to coach and mentor.

-    Be able to use various communication techniques to communicate more
      effectively with the people they coach and mentor.

In a nutshell, this program will provide the basic coaching and mentoring
framework and skills for the participants to be effective coaches and
mentors at work.

Topic 1: Introduction – What is coaching and mentoring and why are
              they important?
             -    What is Coaching and what is Mentoring
             -    The need for coaching and mentoring in today’s
                  organizations
             -    Who should become coaches and mentors?
             -    Formal and informal coaching and mentoring
             -    A typical coaching and mentoring process

Topic 2: Knowing yourself – How ready are you to be a coach and mentor?
             -    Self awareness – the critical step to being an effective
                   coach and mentor
             -    Self assessment: What is your Emotional Intelligence
                  (EQ)level?
             -    Explanation on each key areas of the EQ test and how
                  to improve these.
             -    Identifying your current coaching and mentoring style
             -    Identifying your leadership style

Topic 3: The process – How to develop a suitable coaching and mentoring
             framework
             -    Setting and managing expectations
             -    The responsibilities of the coach/mentor and the
                  staff they coach/mentor
             -    Defining the goals and outcomes
             -    The different styles of coaching and mentoring
             -    The different learning styles
             -    Growing leaders
             -    Identifying the right coaches and mentors
             -    Monitoring and evaluation

Topic 4: The toolbox – Skills for effective coaching and mentoring
             -    Rapport Skills
             -    Listening and questioning skills
             -    Reframing skills
             -    Storytelling skills

methodology

This workshop utilizes various group activities including learning methods such as World Café and Open Space Forum, self assessments, VAK approach, 4Mat method, minimal lecture, extensive discussions and role playing to ensure effective long term learning among the participants. 


who must attend

This program is designed for newly promoted supervisors and managers who need the skills to coach and mentor the people they manage.  This is also for existing supervisors and managers who are not yet able to coach and mentor their staff as well as they would like to, and would like additional knowledge and skills to do so properly.

COURSE FACILITATOR - MR. BRIEN LEE MENG SIONG

Brien Lee Meng Siong believes that continuous learning enriches lives and enhances a company’s bottom line. A Masters holder with 12 years of working experience, including eight years in management and senior management in international organizations.

He has direct experience in on-the-ground operational work as well as higher level strategic planning and management.   Key positions he has successfully managed were a national tiger conservation programme and a Knowledge Management Initiative for WWF-Malaysia. He also served as Project Manager for United Nations Development Programme.

Brien is a certified NLP Master Practitioner and a HRDF Certified Trainer (Human Resources Development Fund, Ministry of Human Resources Malaysia).   Brien believes that everyone deserves to be happy. And a critical key to this is the ability to communicate elegantly and with impact. Therefore, he specializes in the field of inter-personal communications, teaching people how to get the results they want in both their professional and personal lives elegantly and impactfully.
