Factors of Import and Export Management

     1.   Understanding International Transportation
            -   The dominant global risk factors of Security, Market, Adversary,
                Regulated and Transport risks creating logistics friction and
                weakening order fulfillment.
            -   The role and responsibility of a Forwarder, in capacity of an Agent
                and Principal.  The immunities of the Standard Trading Conditions at
                the expense of cargo owners.
            -   The Carriage of Goods by Air, Sea, Rail and Truck in cross
                border trade.  Featuring the Contract Owner, Contract Executioner and
                Contract Beneficiary and the managing of transportation risks and costs.

     2.   Understanding the Terms of Trade of INCOTERMS 2010
             - The proper usage and execution of Incoterms, illustrating
                the 11 rulings in the 4 groups of E,F,C,D of seller’s and buyer’s
                responsibilities and liabilities undertakings.
             -  The new provisions of Chain of String Sales and Chain of Custody. 
                The new classification of DAT and DAP ruling.
             -  The contractual risks and costs between sellers and buyers and
                the importance of the factors of compliance and control.

     3.   Understanding the Provisions of Cargo Insurance
            -  The pre-requisites of a Marine Cargo Insurance Policy
                complementing the carrier’s limited liability, variants of
                transport hazards, cargo fragility and perishability.
            -   The type of Referred and Declined Risks.  The underwriting
                conditions and general principles of marine cargo insurance practices.
            -   The definition of Particular Average and General Average. 
                The difference between Free of Particular Average and with
                Particular Average.  The version of all Risks coverage and War Strikes
                and Civil Commotions Risks.
 
     4.   Understanding the Types of Documentation
            -   The Commercial documents of Supplier’s Quotation, Purchase Order,
                Sales Confirmation Order, Proforma Invoice, Commercial Invoice,
                Supply and Delivery Contract.
            -   The Transportation documents of Airway Bill, Bill of Lading,
                Shipper’s Letter of Instruction, Export Shipping Instruction,
                Shipping Order and Delivery Note.
            -  The Statutory documents of Customs Declaration Form,
                Certificate of Origin, Fumigation Certificate and Cargo
                Inspection Report.

     5.   Understanding the Payment of Goods and Services
            -  The methods of trade payment from Open Account, Payment in
                Advance, Documentary Collection and Documentary Credits.
            -  The principles of Documentary Credit (Letter of Credits) in the
                financial undertakings.  The types of Letter of Credits from Irrevocable
                Confirmed to Revocable.  The general conditions of a Letter of Credit
                and the common discrepancies in Letter of Credits Instructions.
            -  The Uniformed Customs and Practices (UCP) 600 Implementation. 
                Focusing the standard for examination of documents. 
                The provisions of Commercial Invoice, Bill of Lading and Seaway Bill.

     6.   Understanding Customs and Port Formalities
            -   The Customs Ruling on Importation and Exportation of Goods. 
                The definition of Customs Valuation and Customers Trade Classification.
            -   The Port and Terminal roles and responsibilities in the loading
                and unloading of cargo, storage and warehousing, port surveillance
                and custodian rights.
            -   The operational gaps between cargo owners and the combination
                of customs and port authorities in the safe handling of
                cargo ownerships.

COURSE FACILITATOR - MR. STEPHEN KUM

Mr. Stephen Kum (MBA, USA), is a fellow of the Institute of Freight Forwarders (UK), The Institute of Logistics & Transport (UK), Professional Member of Logistics & Supply Chain Management Society and former Vice Chairman of the Persatuan Logistik Selangor.

He has more than 28 years hands-on experience in the field of International Trade, Global Procurement, Freight and Logistics. He was the Managing Director of a large global logistics service provider with regional offices in UK, USA, Australia and Asia.

Mr. Kum is also actively involved in training for manufacturers, corporations, forwarders, trade associations, trade divisions of embassies and tourism authority organizations. He is also affiliated with Cambridge International College (UK) and Durbam Logistics College (UK) as their Training Consultant for Malaysia and also as an Associate Consultant for a Supply Chain solutions company in Singapore.
